Shape control of nanostructured TiO2 using a Schiff base ligand via sol–gel hydrothermal method

Employing a Schiff base ligand in a hydrothermal sol–gel method for preparation of TiO₂ nanostructures was studied. The as-prepared products were characterized by X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectrum, electron dispersive X-ray spectroscopy and ultraviolet–visible spectroscopy. It is shown that in the controlled reaction conditions, a Schiff base ligand containing hard atoms is capable of driving the growth mechanism in a way that anisotropic shapes of TiO₂ nanostructures are formed. Considering the structure of the Schiff base ligand, the possible growth mechanism of TiO₂ nanostructures is proposed. The optical studied as well as calculated molecular orbital structure of ligand by density functional theory is done.     

Environmental Benign Catalysis for Linear Alkylbenzene Synthesis: A Review

In this review, we discuss the recent advances in both of non-zeolitic and zeolitic solid acid catalysts for linear alkylbenzene (LAB) synthesis with special focus on improvements of 2-LAB isomer selectivity and catalyst stability. Effects of post treatment methods particularly dealumination and desilication on the catalytic performance of mordenite in terms of mesoporosity, diffusivity and deactivation mechanism are extensively reviewed. Perspective trends in the development of mesoporous zeolites for LAB synthesis are also presented.     

Ordinary Curves,Webs and the Ubiquity of the Weak Lefschetz Property

In this short note we establish a close relationship between two a priori unrelated problems: (1) the existence of ordinary curves in ? ⁿ and, (2) the existence of artinian graded algebras satisfying the Weak Lefschetz Property.     

Synthesis, thermal stability, electronic features, and antimicrobial activity of phenolic azo dyes and their Ni(II) and Cu(II) complexes

Four water soluble azo dyes, 4-(isopropyl)-2-[(E)-(4-chlorophenyl)diazenyl]phenol (L ¹), 4-(isopropyl)-2-[(E)-(2,4-dichlorophenyl)diazenyl]phenol (L²), 4-(sec-butyl)-2-[(E)-(4-chlorophenyl) diazenyl]phenol (L ³), 4-(sec-butyl)-2-[(E)-(2,4-dichlorophenyl)diazenyl]phenol (L ⁴), and their Cu(II) and Ni(II) complexes were synthesized and characterized using spectroscopic methods. Examination of their thermal stability revealed similar decomposition temperature of approximately 260–300°C and that they were more thermally stable than their metal complexes. Ni(II) complexes of ligands L² and L⁴ were more stable than the other coordination compounds. Among the synthesized ligands, L² and the complexes Cu(L³)₂ and Ni(L⁴)₂ showed both antimicrobial and antifungal activity. However, the other ligands and the complexes were poorly active against selected microorganisms.
